Jive Talkin'

I had a great day with the kids today. We went to the mall and had Sean's baptism photos taken finally. While we were home getting read to go I turned on Monster's Inc. Sean really likes this movie and while Kate enjoys it, it is not her favorite (like Finding Nemo). Anyway, she followed me around a bit while I prepared to leave the house. While we were getting her dressed she said to me "Love love Daddy". Well I guess my heart just about melted. It was so sweet but she wasn't finished. "Love love Mommy, Love love Baby". She really likes us!

We have been listening to some disco at home and doing some dancing with the babies. They laugh a lot as we swing them around and lunge them towards each other in the air. Kate likes "Jive Talkin'" by the Bee Gees and will start tapping her right foot when she wants it played. A new favorite has developed though and to request it she simply says "Goo" which is her word for shoe. The song is "Boogie Shoes" by KC and the Sunshine Band. She likes to sing along and will say 'my my my my my baby goos' or my my my my my pink goos".

So, along with the two songs I have mentioned other disco songs get played. "Stayin' Alive" follows 'Jive Talkin' on our Ipod's playlist so it is in the rotation. Today at the mall Jive Talkin' was playing at a jewelry store. The woman behind the counter asked me if Kate was singing along. I said 'she knows the words and is very familiar with the song". Sure enough she was singing the ah ah ah ah part. What a crack up and so cute.

Kate's favorite thing to eat right now is strawberries. She will make yummy noises while the juice runs down her face, chin and shirt. She always asks for the 'big brawberry". If I cut them in half she is disappointed but usually is able to turn it around by noticing that they are shaped like a triangle by exclaiming "Ooooh angle!"

Sean's pictures came out cute. For some reason today he started sticking his tongue out to the side of his mouth when he smiled. I ended up getting a couple of poses because they were too cute. He had a hard time sitting still for the photos now that he is totally mobile. They tried to prop him up on a bean bag but he just kept crawling out.

This boy is strong. We have baby locks on all of our kitchen cabinets and he is breaking them one at a time with his bare hands. He is tenacious and focused and he has the brawn to back up his dedication! Today he climbed up the baby gate. His feet were both planted about halfway up the gate when I caught him. In the shopping cart at BB&B (bed Bath and Beyond) I was looking at flatware and when I turned around he was about to pull himself into a standing position as he had somehow managed to get himself out the restraint. At home Sean will crawl out of the family room, up the two steps (standing on the first step) all for the purpose of getting to the heating vent in the floor near the garage door. He actually ripped it out of the floor today and it took me some effort to put it back in properly. Maybe we should have named him bam Bam!

Sean's favorite thing to eat right now is Cheerios. He also likes scrambled egg yolks and avacado. Like his sister, refried beans are repugnant to him. I am trying to get him to drink formula out of a sippy cup. He has never really drunk out of a bottle. He was doing okay but at the mall today he got a hold of Kate's cup of chocolate milk (called moo moo in our house) and he was sipping on that-I know he isn't supposed to and he didn't get a lot of it but I never knew he could hold the cup himself before he got a taste of that moo moo! Back home I offered him the formula in a cup and it is now greeted with a look of disgust and his face turning quickly away from the cup.

Some milestones for Sean are his first words-"MAMA" at 8 1/2 months. He hears Kate say it so much he just figured it out. He uses it when looking at me or when seeing me and wanting my attention. It is wonderful! He broke a top front tooth this week and the other one will be in any second now. He already has his bottom front teeth. He has been cruising for a while now and if he doesn't take a step tomorrow I will lose a bet to Chris. I was sure that he would walk before 9 months. He has stood on his own but he has not taken a step. Of course any time we try to get him to take a step Kate is always trying to get in on the action!

Kate is very protective of Sean. If he is near the bifold closet door or an outlet she yells "No Baby stop. Owie boo boo!"

I am going to try to keep a journal here on their progress. I have been wanting to start this for a while so while I wish I started sooner I am happy that I have at least got the first entry in today.
