Sean kicked my arse last night. He can really play possum for a long time in bed. I will stand near the crib for 30 minutes straight without so much as a peep or any movement at all from him, but as soon as he thinks it is clear he is up and at’em. I have to admit I am a little impressed by what others would call stubbornness, though I prefer to call it perseverance. He is patient and single minded in his focus to succeed and Michelle will freely admit that he can kick her butt with his determination.(though I am still a little uncertain as to how much this admission has to do with relieving herself of late night duty) In any event, it will be interesting to see if and how this early behavior manifests itself into his personality. He was even toying with me tonight as I put him to bed. He was watching me wide eyed as I left the room and I could see him reaching for the side of his crib before I even managed to shut the door to the room. I just ignored it and let him have a little victory and fun time as long as he remained stealthy about it. I didn’t hear a peep from him, so it was a complete and successful victory for him. As for the girl, I have to say this morning was one of those really warm moments that make the late nights all worthwhile. Devin’s son Bradon told us more than a year ago that he heard Kate say, “Love, Love Mommy” Now we knew she was much too young to say such things but it was still very amusing…and it kinda stuck with us. Ever since then we have been saying it to Kate in lieu of the normal “I love you” and she has really picked up on it over the past few days, particularly at bedtime. She likes to name off all the “love, love” people as she is being tucked in and occasionally throws in an inanimate object for good measure. Well this morning as I was leaving for work she was really giving me a passionate “bye-bye daddy” as she was waving at me from the doorway of the garage. She threw in a “love, love Daddy” and I have to admit, I melted a little bit as I heard her say it with that big cheesy grin of hers. I could see her mother was touched by it too. The kid knows how to make it hard to back out of the driveway in the morning.
