All Wet Daddy!

We spent most of the day on the road today for an appointment in Chicago. The kids are getting so much better on long car rides. I think Kate in particular enjoyed herself tremendously on the trip. She loves pointing out all of the sights along the way. When we arrived at the appointment I took a moment and drove through the golden arches and got a couple of chocolate chip cookies. She loved them, of course, and made a real mess of her face and hands…wish I had a picture of it. We stopped into Bass Pro on the way home and the kids loved it. The bird noises and toys, the stuffed deer and the huge fish aquarium were all fascinating to Sean and Kate. We pulled out to a deserted field after we left to feed the kids and it was kinda nice. Seemed a little like a picnic. Once we got home we went outside for a little while and I was working on the sprinkler system. Since Kate seemed anxious to get off of the deck, I pulled her down right into the path of some spraying water. She squealed with delight and didn’t mind getting wet at all. Her first run through the sprinklers was a lot of fun until I set her down on the ground and the water stream hit her right ion the face and eyes. She still managed to have fun after that but it wasn’t as intense a joyful level of fun. When we finally made it back to the deck she kept repeating “all wet….all wet daddy”. It was great. That is until we went inside. I closed the deck door right as she was putting her little fingers in the doorway. She was screaming and her fingers looked pretty bad, but not broken or bloody. I was actually surprised at how fast she got over the real pain and into the dramatic part of the episode. It wasn’t too long before she was calling for the evening milk. During all of this the boy was quietly exploring the living room in great detail. He did take some formula/milk mixture tonight and seemed to enjoy it. He is eating like a horse, but still is only doing about half the milk he should be since he has been without breast milk. He is smiling a lot though and I think he is going to start walking any day now. Tomorrow is Kate’s 2nd birthday.
