It is hard for me to believe, but today was Kate's second birthday. The time has gone by so quickly just as everyone warned it would. Our little baby born 3 weeks early by emergency c-section two years ago is now a typical toddler.
We started our day with Kate's favorite breakfast-Pancakes! She ate four pancakes and asked for more! Daddy convinced me to put a little extra syrup on since it was a special day. She liked it a lot! We started singing Happy birthday but she said "No Happy".
Later in the morning we went to the photo studio to document her birthday with a portrait. It was no surprise that she was not the most cooperative in the studio. She refused to get into the box with the number 2. She did sit in a wagon but only because Sean got in first. She did smile a bit when I pretended to tickle the photographer and when the photographer tapped her shoes loudly on the floor. Anyway, it looks like we have a few good shots. Sean had a couple of photos taken too and they all came out great. He is at the age where he is so agreeable and sweet. It is difficult to take a bad picture of him because of his disposition and his amazing good looks. Everyone says he looks like me!
By the time we hit Target both kids were tired and hungry and crying. I pushed an enormous double cart through the store getting birthday supplies. We made it out of the store before a total meltdown and drove straight home. Kate went right to bed and Sean stayed up with me for a short time before he took a nap too. With both babies sleeping I was able to get Kate's gifts wrapped and do a little decorating. When Kate woke up she was very interested in the presents!
I started dinner, Nana came over and Daddy arrived home soon after. We ate and then the party began. We sang Happy Birthday and Kate seemed to enjoy it this time! She blew out the candles really well and then we moved on to presents. She gets it now. Presents are good! The first gift was a Princess tea set from Mom and Dad. She seemed to like it a lot. Lots of presents from Nana, clothes, a bassinet, and gifts sent from Uncle Dennis and Aunt Erica. TMZ Elmo put a smile on her face and made her laugh. After all of the gifts we had cake and ice cream and Kate said "More Happy Mama" as she looked at her gifts. Afterwards she played tea party and made wonderful sound effects while pouring and drinking tea.
I feel like we did a good job pleasing her this year. I know that she will not remember this birthday but I always will and knowing that I saw all that joy on my little girl's face will bring me joy for a long time. Happy Birthday Kate. I am so happy that you are here!
